I’m always asked, “What products do you use on your hair?”
In the natural community, that is the perfect small talk starter…FYI.. but I honestly love everything about natural hair. And no, I wasn’t always natural. (That is the second most asked question). To be transparent, understanding everything “natural” took a lot of patience, youtube (shameless plug: check out my best friend’s youtube channel), and self love (you have to love yourself when your twist-out turns out raggedy) .
I took some time to sit down with my hair cabinet, and document all of my favorite products that I feel REALLY transformed my hair.
Disclaimer: I am not a licensed hair guru. I just know what works for me.
Cleansers
I am not the biggest fan of shampoo, but I take my conditioners seriously. This has been a staple of mine all year. It leaves my hair feeling so soft and smooth. If you are not a fan of orange scented things, this is probably not the product for you.
You can find this product at Sallys for $5.99 or a salon pump bottle on Amazon.
I admit, I can be a little heavy handed with the edge control or eco styler with my high buns. When this happens, I will start off my wash day with a Pre-Poo. For me, I can keep a protective style in for almost 5-6 days…so this pre-poo by African Pride helps me through my detangling process while moisturizing my curls. I try to never detangle my hair in its “dry” state, so having this pre-poo working through my hair is perfect. You can purchase this product here!
Hair Health
Say it with me…”AH-PHO-GHE“. Learn this brand, they are your best friend. I am a huge fan of Aphogee’s Protein Treatments. They have really helped my hair stay strong, even if I am adding heat to my hair (which I really try not to). These two products helped my curls bounce back from heat damage, and has been the key component (besides deep conditioning) that fights against breakage. Highly recommend these products!! I use them normally every 6-7 weeks!
The Aphogee Balancing Moisturizer- $6.79 at Sallys
The Two Step Protein Treatment– $8.49 at Sallys
If you would like to purchase them both in a bundle deal, you can here.
I remember when I was a little girl, my mom would take me to the hair salon and I would get hot oil treatments. I oddly enjoyed how they felt on my scalp…which is weird. LOL, but I also remember how hot oil treatments help my hair grow long and strong. Going back to my roots, I now do a hot oil treatment every wash day, with my deep conditioner. I will first put on my deep conditioner and properly detangle, then I run the hot oil treatment through my roots. Once this is complete, I will steam my hair with my Q-Redew, and place my hair under a shower cap. It is always a good idea to do hot oil treatments on clean hair…we are not a fan of clogged pores.
These hot oil treatments from Sally’s are the perfect size! I put a cup of water in the microwave for around 4 minutes before I wash my hair. Once the water is heated, I place the hot oil treatment in the water- and continue with my wash day routine until it is time to use it. Please be cautious that this can get very hot!
I purchase these packets at Sallys for $1.99.
Stylers
There is a little bit of controversy on if your hair needs a leave-in conditioner or not. My opinion- it isn’t always necessary, but it wouldn’t hurt. For me, I always coat my strands with leave-in, just out of habit, and because I love the smell of this Pomegranate & Honey. In the winter months, when your hair is screaming for more moisture, I personally think it is a great idea to add a leave in conditioner of your choice. I love the Mielle Organics line, and there hasn’t been one product that I haven’t purchased more than once from this brand…so that should say something!
The Mielle Organics Pomegrante & Honey Leave In– $12.99. This is pretty expensive, but I am still using the same bottle I purchased a year ago.
I can’t wait to document more on my hair growth journey and really dive in on how I bounced my hair back to health.
If you have any questions please reach out to me, and if you would like to see how my typical wash day routine on video, comment below and I just might film it 🙂

You really make it seem really easy with your presentation but I find this matter to be really one thing which I feel I’d never understand. It sort of feels too complex and extremely large for me. I am having a look ahead to your subsequent put up, I?¦ll try to get the hold of it!
