Bahama Mama!!!
I know you are probably wondering- this girl has been to Dubai but not the Bahamas? You darn skippy. I’ve never been, and actually never felt the need to go. Being a fellow West Indian (we can dive into this later), I never felt the need to visit any Caribbean country until I took the time to visit “Home”. But when my Mom + Aunt decided they wanted to go on a Family Cruise…I called up my best girlfriends, and we were off! Did I mention this was my first cruise. Terrifying is not even the word.
We embarked our long road trip from North Carolina to Jacksonville, Florida. The ride was so much fun!! My mom and grandma slept the entire way, while my favorite Aunt, best friend, and I talked about everything and watched the sun come up. And before you knew it, we were taking fireball shots in the parking lot loading up to enter the ship.
This is post fireball…as you can see the nerve are still there.
Thank you Carnival Elation, for being so awesome, and also being my first ever cruise ship. To my surprise, this cruise was extremely fun. After reading alot of reviews, I found out that the Carnival cruise line is built for some fun times. I did receive a visit from the “motion sickness fairy”, but other than that…I had a ball. Our crew did Karaoke every…single…night (and never got tired of it), and we partied until the sun came up.
DID I MENTION I LOVED THE FOOD!!
I’m a major foodie, and I was pretty afraid that I would hate the food. Needless to say, I ate like a queen every single dinner.
Below is a breakdown of our cruise timelines.
Day at Sea, Freeport Bahamas, Nassau Bahamas, Day at Sea, then home sweet home.
I’ll be honest with you….the days at sea are the absolute worse, and I was not a fan of Freeport Bahamas. I actually could’ve stayed on the ship and skipped out on that entire adventure…But- it was an excuse for us to party on land.
The drinks were amazing at Freeport,Bahamas.
If I could pick one thing that I loved about my Bahamian adventure, it would be Nassau. We had a blast taking photos, exploring Atlantis, visiting the Rum Factory, and getting turnt LOL.
It is literally memory lane going through these photos…I can even remember when our phones dropped in the water because we were too obsessed with being in the ocean. (Thank you iPhone 8 and above)
I have received a few questions such as, “Would you go on another cruise?”, “Would you travel to the Bahamas again?”, “Best and Worst experience on the cruise?”, “What would you do differently?”… and here is my POV on these topics:
“Would you go on another cruise?”
Hell. Yeah! I had the time of my life. After my motion sickness stopped, it was complete party town. We decided to use Carnival- and they are so much fun! Our cruise director not only set the party off right, but he kept it going for the entire 4 days. And oddly enough, I never saw the same group more than once. That is how big the cruise ship was!
“Would you go back to the Bahamas?”
Eh… no. BUT I would love to travel to the different districts such as Exuma. That is a must. The Bahamas are so full with tourist (like myself), and it took away from the beauty of the natives.
“Best and Worst experience on the cruise?”
My worst experience would probably be the motion sickness. I just wasn’t expecting it, and it really took us all down. We were in the bed by 8pm, couldn’t finish our dinner…done. The best experience would be the parties at night, and spending quality time with my family with no phone service. I loved not bringing my phone everywhere. I was able to spend time with my family, and get to know family members that I haven’t seen in years!
“What would you do differently?”
If I could do a cruise again, I might want to go during the summer time. There were some chilly days, that ruined the pool experience. I have thought about an all adult cruise, the kids splashing in the pool was alot. (Joi loves the kids tho). I would also purchase the unlimited drink package. We were allowed to bring wine bottles onto the ship, and that held us over, but to have unlimited drinks- that would’ve really set it off. If I wasn’t so frugal, I probably should’ve purchased some shore excursions, instead of shopping.
I hope you enjoyed my run down on living the cruise life!
xoxo,
Joi

I do like the way you have framed this matter and it does give me a lot of fodder for thought. Nevertheless, through everything that I have personally seen, I basically hope when the responses pile on that folks continue to be on issue and not start upon a tirade of some other news of the day. Yet, thank you for this fantastic piece and even though I can not necessarily concur with the idea in totality, I value the point of view.
